The man of Two Lights

Uthman bin Affan RA was extraordinarily handsome. He married Rasulullah's PBUH second daughter Ruqayyah RA, who was also very beautiful.
One day, Rasulullah SAW sent them a message, and the messenger took a long time to return. Rasulullah SAW said to the messenger, "I know what has detained you- you stood there gazing at 'Uthman and Ruqayyah, marveling at their beauty!"

Uthman and Ruqayyah (RAnhuMA) lived through much joy and suffering and endured many trials together. After surviving the terrible tortures of the early converts in Makka, these two made the first Hijrah to Abyssinia. They lived there for a time and then returned to join the Hijrah to Madinah.

Later, at the time of Badr, all the Muslim men were preparing to fight, and Rasulullah SAW's daugher Ruqayyah, Uthman's beloved wife, lay very sick...
As a result, Sayyidina Uthman RA decided to stay home with her.
When the victorious army returned, they found grief in the houses of Rasulullah SAW, for Ruqayyah RA had passed away...

Rasulullah SAW shed tears during her burial and when asked why, he replied "it is but my humanness..."
The prophet asked "who among you who had not touched their wives this morning?"
One of the sahabats replied "I!" and Rasulullah SAW commanded for him to bring Ruqayyah's body into the graves of Al Baqi', Medina.

After a period of mourning, Uthman RA married Rasulullah's other daughter Umm Kalthum, a playmate and bestfriend of Ruqayyah when she had lived.
At this, Sayyidina Uthman RA camed to be called "He of the two lights" or "Dzu Nur-Ain", for being married to two of the Prophet's SAW lovely daughters.

The prophet SAW had also declared, "If I have any more daughters, I shall marry her to Uthman!"
Sayyidina Uthman RA was a man who loved to read the Quraan; very, very shy and softhearted. The fact that the prophet SAW would marry any more of his daughters to Sayyidina Uthman if he has more, indicated that Sayyidina Uthman was a man centred among his family and would treat them with the best of care and responsibility.
